Price Tiers / Quantity Discounts

Learn how to set up price tiers, which are discounts that automatically apply when a certain quantity of an item is sold.

πŸ“ Overview

A price tier allows you to automatically discount an item based on the quantity sold. For example, the price of a single can of food might be $3.00, but when bought six at a time, the price per can might be discounted to $2.75. This allows for a streamlined process for certain discounts, without having to manually make the adjustment.

πŸ”‘ Setting Up Price Tiers

Discount tiers are based on an item's Base Price and Base Quantity, both of which are set in the inventory item's profile. To update these values, click Edit Item in the navigation bar. These values serve as the defaults for new medical records, estimates, and invoices. Once set, an unlimited number of discount tiers can be configured. Follow the steps below to set a price tier on an item.

  1. Navigate to the applicable inventory item

  2. Click Price Tiers and select New Tier

  3. Complete the form by entering:

    • The quantity threshold at which the discount applies

    • The discount amount (as a percentage off the base price)

  4. Click Save + Done to save the tier and return to the inventory profile, or Save + Add New to save the tier and immediately add another.

    🧠 Example

The item in this example has a base quantity of 1 tablet. The Max Quantity field is the max amount of the item that discount will be applied to. Based on the tier setup below:

    • 1–10 tablets β†’ sold at the base price (no discount)

    • 11–20 tablets β†’ 5% off

    • 21–30 tablets β†’ 10% off

If a clinic sells items individually but offers a discount when a full bottle is purchased, price tiers can handle this as well. For a bottle containing 30 tablets:

  • Set a tier with a max quantity of 29 at 0% discount

  • Set a tier with a max quantity of 30 at the applicable discount percentage

πŸ’‘ Please Note: Price tiers are always configured as a percentage discount. If the clinic's discount is a fixed dollar amount, calculate the equivalent percentage before setting up the tier.

πŸ” How to Use Price Tiers

Once tiers are configured, the item's price is automatically calculated based on the quantity entered on the invoice. When the quantity crosses a tier threshold, the price updates automatically to reflect the applicable discount. You just need to add the item and quantity to the invoice as you normally would.

⚠️ Important: Discount tier calculations are ignored if the item's price is manually changed while editing an invoice.
