Cash Rounding (In Beta)

Learn about the Cash Rounding feature, how to turn it on, and what to expect at checkout and in your reports.

Written by Blake Nadilo

🚨 This feature is currently in beta testing with a select number of accounts and will be released wide in the near future.

šŸ“ Overview

Cash Rounding automatically rounds cash payments to the nearest 5 or 10 cents, making it easier to give exact change when low-denomination coins aren't available or convenient. This is an optional, account-level setting, and you can turn it on or off at any time. It only affects payments made with cash.

āš ļø Cash Rounding only affects a Cash Payment Type. Card, digital wallet, and other electronic payments are never rounded.

āœ… Enabling Cash Rounding

šŸ’” Before enabling cash rounding, review the applicable rules in your jurisdiction. Cash rounding is commonly used in countries where lower-denomination coins are no longer minted or in general circulation — such as Canada, Australia, and the United States — but it can be applied anywhere you prefer to round cash transactions to the nearest 5 or 10 cents.

Follow the steps below to turn on Cash Rounding for your account.

āš ļø Authorizations: Only users with an Admin-level role can enable, disable, or change the Cash Rounding setting.

  1. Go to Settings, navigate to Configurations > View Configurations

  2. Search for the Cash Rounding configuration and select Edit to the right

  3. Select a rounding option: 5 Cents or 10 Cents

  4. Save your changes

āš ļø Important: Changing the rounding option applies going forward only. Payments processed before the change keep their original totals.

šŸ’µ Taking a Cash Payment with Cash Rounding Enabled

When a customer pays with cash, the New Payment dialog shows the Total Amount, the Rounding Adjustment, and the Remaining Balance, so you can clearly see how the rounding was applied before completing the transaction.

For example, if a customer's total is $406.61 with 5 Cent rounding enabled, the collected amount will round down to be $406.60.

Invoices, Payments, and Invoice PDFs

Payment in your system display the final, rounded payment amount for any cash payment, so the totals you see match what was actually collected. You will also see the rounding amount under the payment amount within the invoice.

Invoice PDFs include a note showing the rounding adjustment that was applied to the payment.

šŸ’” Additionally, the rounding amount is found under the Client's Billing History within their profile and under the payment transaction in the billing module.

Refunds and Mixed-Tender Invoices

Refunds on cash payments reflect the same rounding that was applied to the original transaction, so the refunded amount stays consistent with what the customer paid.

For mixed-tender invoices (cash plus another payment method), the system automatically applies a forced credit to reconcile the rounding difference.

🧠 Example: "A $0.03 rounding credit was applied to balance this mixed-tender invoice."

šŸ“Š Reporting

Cash Rounding adjustments are reflected in the following reports:

  • End of Day Reconciliation and End of Day Detail

  • Collections Detail by Type

  • Monthly Payment Summary

All other reports continue to display exact, pre-rounding totals.
