Ask Daisy - AI Assistant

Learn about Ask Daisy, your AI assistant in patient profiles

Written by Blake Nadilo

🚨 Ask Daisy is currently in Beta Testing and will be released wide in the near future.

πŸ“ Overview

Ask Daisy is an AI assistant built directly into each patient's profile. Ask questions in plain language and receive answers drawn from that patient's information β€” including quick summaries, SOAP-style overviews, recent visit history, and current medications. Ask Daisy is designed to save time when reviewing a record.

πŸ”Ž Accessing Ask Daisy

Ask Daisy is located in the top header of all patient profiles. To get started, simply click the button.

Ask Daisy opens as a panel docked to the right of the screen, already loaded for that patient. The patient's name, breed, and age (when available) appear at the top of the panel so you can confirm which patient Daisy is answering about.

When it opens, Daisy greets you with a short note about what it can help with: summarizing patient history, recent notes, medications, and SOAP details.

🌼 Using Ask Daisy

This section dives into how to use Ask Daisy for reviewing patient information

⚠️ Please Note: Ask Daisy can make mistakes. Always review its response before relying on it or adding anything to the Medical Note.

How To Ask a Question & Use Suggested Prompts

How to Ask a Question

  1. Type your question in the box at the bottom of the panel β€” for example, "What vaccines is this patient due for?" or "Summarize the last visit."

  2. Press Enter to send. Use Shift + Enter to add a new line without sending. You can also click the Send button

Daisy displays a "thinking" indicator while processing, then streams the answer as it is written.

πŸ’‘ Keep questions focused on the patient whose record you opened. Ask Daisy works best with clear, specific questions.

How to Use Suggested Prompts

Above the message box, quick-action buttons are available for the most common requests:

  • SOAP Summary β€” A SOAP-style overview for the patient.

  • Summarize β€” A plain-language summary of the patient.

Click either button to send that request instantly. You can always follow up with a typed question afterward.

How To Read & Interact With Responses

Answers stream in as Daisy writes them. A short status message (for example, "Looking through the patient history…") appears before the response.

  • Responses are formatted with headings, lists, and tables for easy scanning.

  • Hover over (or focus on) a response to reveal the Copy button, then click it to copy the answer to your clipboard.

  • Important: Please Rate the answer β€” Click πŸ‘ if the response was helpful or πŸ‘Ž if it wasn't. On πŸ‘Ž, you can add an optional note about what was off, or skip it. Clicking the same thumb again removes your rating. Feedback helps improve Ask Daisy β€” it does not change the response on screen.

⚠️ Always read the answer before acting on it. The message box displays a reminder: AI may make mistakes. Please review before proceeding.

⛔️ Do not treat an Ask Daisy answer as the clinical record. The responsible clinician reviews and decides what goes into the Medical Note.

How To Start a New Chat & View Chat History

Click the arrow to learn how to start anew chat and view chat history

Start a New Chat

Start a new chat when moving to a different topic or when you want a clean slate.

  1. Click History at the top of the panel

  2. Click New Chat

Your previous chat is saved and remains available in History for that patient.

How To View Chat History

Ask Daisy keeps a history of chats for each patient. Click History at the top of the panel to access them.

From History, you can:

  • View past chats for the current patient, each with an automatic title, last updated date, and message count.

  • Click any chat to reopen it and continue where you left off.

  • Click New Chat to start a fresh conversation.

  • Click the trash icon to delete a chat. You will be asked to confirm β€” this action cannot be undone.

πŸ’‘ History only shows chats for the patient you are currently viewing. Switch to a different patient to see that patient's chat history.

How To Move & Resize the Panel

Click the arrow to learn how to move and resize the panel

Ask Daisy offers several layout options using the controls in its top bar:

  • Pop out to a window β€” Switch to a floating window you can drag and resize from any corner.

  • Resize the panel β€” Drag the left edge of the docked panel to make it wider or narrower.

  • Dock back to a panel β€” Return the floating window to the docked side panel.

  • Maximize β€” Expand the floating window to fill most of the screen, then restore it.

  • Close β€” Close Ask Daisy. Your chats are saved and reopen from History next time.

βš™οΈ How To Manage a Long Conversation & Usage Limits

A long conversation can reach the limit of what Daisy can retain at once. Additionally, the number of messages you can send depends on your clinic's access level.

Click the arrow to learn how to mange a long conversation and usage limits

Managing Long Conversations

A long conversation can reach the limit of what Daisy can retain at once. Ask Daisy handles this automatically and displays the following indicators:

  • Context meter β€” A small "% context" indicator at the top of the panel shows how full the current chat is. It turns amber, then red, as it fills.

  • Getting full warning β€” Around 80% full, a banner suggests starting a new conversation for the best results. You can dismiss it or click Start New Conversation.

  • Condensed β€” If Daisy summarizes older messages to make room, a "Condensed" tag appears. The earlier conversation is still retained; this simply keeps the chat efficient.

  • Context limit reached β€” If the chat is completely full, Daisy can no longer retain older messages. Click Context Limit Reached (or Continue in History) to start a fresh chat that carries over from the current one.

πŸ’‘ Tip: For long conversations or unrelated topics, starting a new chat typically produces the clearest answers.

Usage & Limits

The number of messages you can send depends on your clinic's access level. Currently the limit is set to 1500 messages a month and there is a percentage indicator below the text bar. The usage limits are subject to change as Ask Daisy is still in Beta testing.

πŸ’‘ Best Practices & Tips

This section covers helpful information when first starting out with Ask Daisy

Click the arrow to learn about best practices & tips

Best Practices

  • Open Ask Daisy from the correct patient β€” Daisy answers about the patient whose record you opened it from. Confirm the patient name at the top of the panel.

  • Ask clear, specific questions. "What medications is this patient on?" works better than "Tell me everything."

  • Use the suggested prompts (Summarize, SOAP Summary) for common requests.

  • Ask one thing at a time, then follow up. Daisy remembers the conversation, so you can build on previous answers.

  • Start a new chat when you change topics or move to a new patient.

  • Review every answer before acting on it. Daisy can be wrong or miss details.

  • Follow your clinic's policy for privacy and client information.

Tips & Shortcuts

  • Press Enter to send; press Shift + Enter to add a new line within a longer question.

  • Follow up in the same chat to refine an answer β€” for example, "Now just the vaccines" after a full summary.

  • Use Copy to paste an answer elsewhere, then edit as needed.

  • If the context meter is nearing full, start a new chat β€” answers stay sharper in shorter conversations.

  • Use Continue on a full chat to keep the thread without losing prior context.

  • Keep a separate chat per topic so your History stays easy to scan.
