Understand your rate plan

Interchange (IC) fees

Whenever a customer pays with a card, the card company, such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover, charges a small fee known as an interchange fee. Each transaction has its own unique interchange rate, which depends on factors like the type of card used, how the transaction was processed, and the security measures taken.

What is the Plus?

A small additional fee from CardPointe for their services.

The IC+ model is a pricing system that makes these fees more transparent. Instead of paying one flat rate for all transactions. This method is often cheaper for businesses that process a high number of transactions because you’re not overpaying on a flat rate; you're paying the real fees directly. This system gives you more clarity over your processing costs, especially if you handle a large volume of card payments.

Understand your fees

After downloading the statement, scroll down to the blue fees section to find that month’s fees. Below is the breakdown of fees associated with DaySmart.

The fee list will start sectioned by card brand. At first glance, your Plus rates may not stand out due to the detailed breakdown of fees. The CardPointe fees will be listed on separate lines.

The Credit Card transactions will show as:

  • MASTERCARD SALES DISCOUNT 0.00XX DISC RATE TIMES $XXX.XX

  • VISA SALES DISCOUNT 0.00XX DISC RATE TIMES $XXX.XX

  • DISCOVER SALES DISCOUNT 0.00XX DISC RATE TIMES $XXX.XX

  • AMEX SALES DISCOUNT 0.00XX DISC RATE TIMES $XXX.XX

Your Debit transactions should be listed around the credit line and look very similar:

  • MASTERCARD DEBIT SALES DISC 0.00XX DISC RATE TIMES $XXX.XX

  • VISA DEBIT SALES DISCOUNT 0.00XX DISC RATE TIMES $XXX.XX

  • DISCOVER DEBIT SALES DISCOUNT 0.00XX DISC RATE TIMES $XXX.XX

  • AMEX DEBIT SALES DISCOUNT 0.00XX DISC RATE TIMES $XXX.XX

  1. 0.00XX DISC RATE: Your plus rate, you can look at it more like 0.XX%

  2. TIMES $XXX.XX: Funds collected, this is multiplied by your plus rate to calculate the fees you owe

When a transaction is attempted, there will be a base authorization fee to verify the card:

  • MASTERCARD AUTH FEE XX TRANSACTIONS AT 0.XX

  • VISA AUTH FEE XX TRANSACTIONS AT 0.XX

  • DISCOVER AUTH FEE XX TRANSACTIONS AT 0.XX

  • AMEX AUTH FEE XX TRANSACTIONS AT 0.XX

  1. XX TRANSACTIONS: The number of transactions with this fee added

  2. 0.XX: Authorization fee per transaction

All other lines, unless listed below, are associated with the interchange fees set by card brands. These fees can change yearly as the card brands update them, and CardPointe and DaySmart do not have control over these rate changes.

Other Possible Fees

The Call Authorization fee is charged when a zip code or address is necessary to complete the transaction. This usually applies to manual and online booking transactions.

  • AVS 950 CALL AUTHORIZATION FEE XX TRANSACTIONS AT 0.XX

  1. XX TRANSACTIONS: The number of transactions with this fee added

  2. 0.XX: Authorization fee per transaction

If you are renting a device or recently purchased a device outright, you will see a terminal fee on your statement. This fee is the total of all active devices on the account. Go to My Account, then Equipment to see your active devices.

  • TERMINAL FEE

PCI Compliance is required to be filed every year. If you are seeing this fee, you are non-compliant. This fee is non-refundable and will be removed once you are compliant.

  • DEBIT FEE ADJ/REV Non-Receipt of PCI Validation
